The UK Government has announced up to GBP 6 million of funding to support ideas to improve Internet of Things (IoT) security. The funding will be provided through Innovate UK to organisations with ideas addressing industry-focused cyber security-related challenges.
The funding is part of the UK Research and Innovation Strategic Priorities Fund. Applications can be submitted between 18 February and 01 May 2019. The competition is open to UK-based businesses of any size leading a project and working with other partners. These collaborations should include at least once SME and one academic partner.
Businesses can receive up to 70 percent of their project costs, with total eligible project costs of between GBP 2.5 million and GBP 4 million. Projects must commence by 01 December 2019 and last 18-24 months. They must include machine learning or artificial intelligence (AI) and have a clear commercialisation strategy. Projects should focus on at least one of the following: protection of people living in digital homes and their smart systems; intelligent control systems for commercial, industry and public sector buildings; and/or operational resilience technologies to protect and recover data.
