Blizzard’s DeepMind artificial intelligence seems to be ready for a proper public showing as they plan on showing off its newly acquired strategy skills in StarCraft 2, the live Twitch stream of which is scheduled to go live tomorrow.

DeepMind’s live stream will go live on StarCraft 2’s Twitch channel tomorrow, January 24 2019, at 10:00 am PT, which translates to 19:00 am CET. Blizzard have plenty more new developments they wish to share, and their work on AI is is reportedly coming along great.

If you haven’t been following Blizzard’s aspirations to take over the world with the oldest trick in the book, wink wink, DeepMind AI is far from a new project and its latest appearance was at last year’s BlizzCon. Granted, with all that’s went down with Diablo Immortal, having DeepMind slip through the cracks wasn’t overly difficult so let us jog your memory.

At the time, DeepMind was still somewhat of a greenhorn in StarCraft 2, but Blizzard claim it didn’t take long for it to go from tackling the basics of StarCraft 2 to worker rush, which is quite impressive. It worked pretty well too, with its success rate against Insane difficulty AI at 50 per cent.

DeepMind’s team then took to feeding it actual replays from human players, where the AI became perfectly capable of pulling off some rudimentary macro focused strategies. It could also comfortably fend off tactics like cannon rushes, which even Blizzard admitted to being “cheesy”.

The development team claim that StarCraft 2 is the perfect training ground for DeepMind, providing unique opportunities to monitor its performance in “problems such as planning, dealing with uncertainty and spatial reasoning.” They didn’t say how long it will take for it to go rogue and take over the world.
